Helping Indhumathi Continue Her Nursing Education | LYNAYC

Sometimes, all it takes is one difficult year to put that dream beyond reach.

For Indhumathi, a young student from a small village near

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, that dream was to become a nurse.

She had the determination to study. She had the support and encouragement of

her family. And she had taken an important step toward her future by beginning

her Nursing studies at Excel College of Nursing, Vellore.

Then her family’s financial situation changed.

A Family Facing an Unexpected Crisis

Indhumathi is the eldest child in her family and has two younger brothers.

Her family, including her parents and grandparents, depended heavily on the

income earned by her father.

He worked as a lorry driver, providing the family’s primary source of income.

But after falling behind on the vehicle loan, the lorry was repossessed.

Suddenly, the family’s financial stability disappeared.

Everyday expenses became difficult, and continuing Indhumathi’s education

became an even greater challenge.

A Dream of Becoming a Nurse

Indhumathi had already begun pursuing her dream as a

first-year Nursing student.

Studying away from home was an important milestone. She was working toward

becoming a nurse and building a stable future not only for herself, but also

for the family that had supported her.

But higher education brings expenses beyond tuition.

College fees, accommodation, food, transportation and everyday living costs

can quickly become overwhelming for a family that has suddenly lost its

primary income.

Despite her parents’ strong belief in her education, the financial reality

placed Indhumathi dangerously close to having to discontinue her studies.

 

Her dream had not changed. Her circumstances had.

 

When Love Your Neighbours Stepped In

Indhumathi’s situation eventually came to the attention of

Love Your Neighbours As Yourself Charity (LYNAYC).

We believe that a temporary financial crisis should not have to permanently

determine a young person’s future.

LYNAYC stepped in to help cover Indhumathi’s

college and hostel expenses, allowing her to remain in her

Nursing program and continue working toward her qualification.

The annual educational and accommodation support represented approximately

₹65,000.

More importantly, it gave a student facing the possibility of dropping out

another opportunity to keep moving forward.

More Than Paying a College Fee

Educational assistance is about much more than paying a bill.

When a student is able to continue their education, the impact can extend

far beyond the individual.

For Indhumathi, completing her Nursing education could provide a pathway

toward employment, financial independence and the ability to support her

family in the future.

It also means that a young woman who wants to dedicate her career to caring

for others has an opportunity to continue preparing for that calling.
